Benedict….you’ve changed.
We know that Brexit will have a strange effect on the country, but it’s already having one on Benedict Cumberbatch. The 41-year-old actor, who was a very vocal remainer during the referendum, has got so wound up he’s lost his hair over this whole thing. OK we jest, thankfully his full head of hair remains at least, but he has morphed into Brexit instigator Dominic Cummings in the name of a role and looks nothing like the Benedict we know and love. Benedict was spotted filming the new Channel 4 drama with the working title BREXIT with actress Liz White, who plays his wife Mary Wakefield, in a North London park while pushing a child actor on a swing – before having a go himself.
The actor looked pretty different from the norm, sporting a noticeably receding hairline as he worked through the scene with his fellow actors. The political thriller is set during the EU referendum in 2016 and is a one-off drama that will explore ‘myriad tactics employed to swing one of the most surprising referendum results in living memory’. It comes with the slogan: ‘Everyone knows who won. But hardly anyone knows how.’ The drama is said to be looking at the ‘anatomy of a modern data-driven election campaign, and the divisive figures driving it from the shadows’.
Benedict was one of 100,000 participants of the anti-Brexit march that took place in London in June. Currently simply named under the working title of Brexit, the Sherlock and Doctor Strange star is joined by Rory Kinnear, who will play David Cameron’s Communications Director Craig Oliver. Writer James Graham said: ‘I’m so excited – not to mention a little nervous – to have this chance to try and get under the skin of what happened during that historic vote. ‘I hope by going behind-the-scenes of the campaign, we’re able to interrogate the consequences of what happened during these 8 weeks that have changed the country forever.’
