Martin Freeman reveals the reason Sherlock 'is not fun anymore'

A fifth series doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon.

Martin Freeman, star of The Office and recent addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after appearing in Black Panther, has revealed that acclaimed BBC series Sherlock simply isn't fun anymore.
The actor plays Dr Watson in the show alongside Benedict Cumberbatch as the famous detective and it has ran for four series. Disappointingly, a fifth has yet to be confirmed.Freeman was asked in an interview with the Telegraph whether talks had begun - to which he replied: "not massively".
His response was a surprising one given the immense popularity of the show, and probably not what fans wanted to hear as he went on to explain exactly why the show is currently stuck on hiatus.
"I think after series 4, [it] felt like a pause. I think we felt we’d done it for a bit now. And part of it, speaking for myself, is the reception of it. People’s expectations, some of it is not fun anymore. It’s not a thing to be enjoyed, it’s a thing of, “You better f**king do this, otherwise you’re a c*nt.” That’s not fun anymore" he said.
He also revealed that attempting to maintain the high quality of the show was "kind of impossible".
"Sherlock became the animal that it became immediately, whereas even with The Office, it was a slow burn. But Sherlock was frankly notably high quality from the outset. And when you start [that high], it’s pretty hard to maintain that", he explained.
It looks like we'll all be kept waiting a bit longer.
